Godaddy Review
Most beginners find themselves looking at Godaddy for their web host needs. I myself years ago was one of them.
Godaddy caters basically to the newbie. This in itself is not necessarily your best bet if you are a newbie.
Let me say that for domain registration Godaddy is a great choice. I use Godaddy for all of my domain registration but not for hosting.
In the past and in working with clients I’ve notice Godaddy website performance noticeably slower than other hosts. Specifically Joomla websites.
If you have more than 3 months of web hosting ‘admin’ experience then Godaddy’s proprietary administration tools will drive you nuts.
They have their own administration interface which makes most admin functions take 10 times longer than web hosts running the standard Cpanel admin interface. (Both Rochenhost and Host Gator use the Cpanel interface.)
Their file manager tool also does not allow you to extract an archived file such as zip or tar.
Let’s say you have to transfer a website from another host to Godaddy or you want to do a manual Joomla or WordPress install. Rather than just creating a zip file, uploading that one file and extracting it… you are forced to upload all the files one at a time via ftp.
This turns a simple site clone or migration from a 15 minute task into a 2 hour event as Godaddy’s ftp upload speed is ridiculously slow. We are talking sometimes hours to upload multi-megabytes of files.
Bottom line if you are serious about running a website yourself you might want to look elsewhere other than Godaddy.
